What is a better choice for an airsoft gun?

I’m getting a new airsoft gun soon (my first) and wasn’t sure if a 315 fps pistol or 290 fps M4A1 was a better choice. They both look really cool but the pistol has more fps and the M4A1 is $10.00 less (does that mean that it’s cheaper than the pistol in terms of use and capabilities?) A lot of people say that I should get a pistol as a first gun but I really need an experienced person’s advice. Thanks!

The 315 FPS could be the velocity of the BB that comes out of the pistol and might not actually shoot that far. A gun could have the velocity of 300 FPS lets say, and the actually range could be like 180 feet. Also the weight of the BB can change the distance the BB can cover. Heavier BB can have better accuracy with less ground covered while lighter BB can have less accuracy and more ground covered.

It’s very hard for me to choose which one is the better choice for you since I don’t have the name of the pistol you are wanting to get and the prices for both guns, but if I was choosing between the two I would go with the M4A1 as they can shoot in automatic(Don’t know if the one you chose does), while pistol can only shoot 1 BB at a time, unless your pistol is a gas gun.

I personally don’t know what to say if the pistol is powered by gas as I have never used one before, and gas powered weapon seems much stronger(in FPS) than the electric.

In the end I think it’s mostly just your personal decision since you have your own likes and dislikes, but if I was choosing between the two I would go with the M4A1.

A little tip if you are buying a electric gun, if you don’t like the RPM of the gun then you can improve that by switching to a better battery. Also don’t overcharge the battery as most battery charger for airsoft does not tell you when the battery is fully charged. Last, don’t shoot for over 10 second without letting go of the trigger as that can cause damage to your battery.

    Hope this helps!

You should not get either. I would suggest a good starter rifle, such as the m4a1, but the 290fps one you mentioned sounds cheap and suspiciously like a sporting goods store gun. Only buy from an airsoft store, such as Airsoftgi. I would recommend this gun to any starter: http://www.airsoftgi.com/product_info.php?cPath=335_336&products_id=3432
It is cheap and really good as a starter weapon. Many people I know have this gun and are not disappointed.

I would definitely go with the pistol as the starter. It will give you a good overview into how an airsoft guns work.I would check this one out, I have one, and it is a really awesome gun. Check it out here, where I got mine, they have an awesome price on it.

I can tell you that the electric model is most likely a starter gun that isn’t designed for longevity. (Won’t last long) If you want something of quality, check out Airsplat.com and look at their middle level models and get something worth it. Check them out:

JG is a great manufacturer and I suggest those for sure. ;)

Hmm…. Well interesting question. Well I think It kind of boils down to this; it depends on what you shoot better. I know that my friend will only use a pistol because that is the best way to aim for him., he could have his arm extended and easily shoot. I on the other hand could not care less, but in this case; I personally love rifle but couldn’t give a toot for them if they were crap. And no offence but that M4 sounds like one. No I’m not saying this so you will spend ten extra dollars for a pistol but because I have shot some of those crap guns that were my friends first and wow. They are really not that accurate, at all, ever, ever, EVER. Let me put it this way my first gun was a shot gun. I really liked it, it was cheap and was accurate to my friend $104 one, but his was automatic. So in conclusion here is what I have to say. I think you should go for the pistol, if you want a rifle then go pump shotgun, and if you really want to listen to me and go out on a limb, which you should not, go out and by the JG Dragunov its the $104 dollar gun and it will last you for a few years.
